If you would like to help Forgotten Felines and live or work on Aucklands North Shore, we'd be happy to have you! We are always looking for reliable, responsible and patient people to help care for our cats and kittens. If you are interested, please contact Sylvia on 0832 44480, or email her at sylvia@forgottenfelines.co.nz

We regularly need "feeders" for our colonies in Browns Bay, Takapuna, Mairangi Bay, Albany and Glenfield. You will need to supply one or two large cans of cat food plus cat biscuits, dependant on the size of the colony. Most feeders feed one colony, one night per week.

"Trappers" need to be dedicated and patient, have their own transport and be able to lift the trap (with the cat inside) in and out of their vehicle, then deliver the cat, still in the trap, to the vet for de-sexing. For the cats safety, traps are never left unattended.

"Fosterers" need to have a spare room to contain the kittens in a safe environment. (This can be a bathroom). Many of our kittens come to us traumatised because they have been dumped, or terrified because they have never been handled, so patience takes priority. The younger the kittens are, the quicker they settle. Normally a fosterer will keep the kittens till they are found new homes. Most volunteers are in either full or part time work, so being at home all day is not necessary, as long as you can spend a few hours each day or evening giving them lots of love. Older children can be wonderful with kittens, and the kittens respond extremely well being handled by different people. Very young kittens are still taken in by Sylvia for bottle feeding.

Many organisations give up on older kittens and have them euthanised but Forgotten Felines firmly believe that kittens up to 4 months, sometimes even a little older, can be successfully tamed and rehomed. It just takes time and patience. Why don't you give it a go?
